Timber.

The beautiful timbers that are part of your furniture are dynamic. They continue to expand and contract even after they have become an integral part of your furniture. That is why it is important to use time honoured methods of furniture construction that allow for the movement of the wood.

This seasonal expansion and contraction of all wood may, over time, cause some warping, checking or seam separation to occur. This effect can be seen in some original antiques. This is part of the natural maturing process, and will probably only become evident when the furniture is passed on to your heirs.

Howard Feed-n-Wax

Howard Feed-N-Wax is a remarkable liquid wax containing orange oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax.

  • enhances the beauty and depth of grain infinished and unfinished wood.
  • prevents drying and deterioration of all wood finishes
  • polishes all wood surfaces to a soft lustre and protects with a coating of natural waxes.
  • maintain the restored finish after using Restor-A-Finish

Tip: Use Feed-N-Wax every month or so to maintain the natural beauty of your fine LifeStyle furniture. Leave it on for about twenty minutes before buffing it off.

You have made an investment in fine furniture. To properly care for it, it is important that you:

  • Keep your furniture out of direct sunlight or high humidity
  • Do not put hot or abrasive things on to your furniture.
  • Do not leave wet cloths or liquid spills on your furniture.
  • Do not use household cleaning products containing silicones.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Do not put glass covers on your furniture - they may cause the furniture to 'sweat'.
  • Always use heat resistant placemats.
Howard Orange Oil

Howard Orange Oil is a 100% natural and non-toxic cleaner for removing build-uip and grime on almost any surface.

  • cleans and polishes wood with real orange oil
  • leaves a beautiful shine and the fresh scent of oranges
  • contains many of the trace elements found in timber - the most sympathetic oil you can use for wood.
  • contains no silicone, linseed oil, or petroleum solvents
  • safe for antiques, furniture, cabinets, and any other finished or unfinished wood surfaces.

Tip: Can also be used as a wood sealer prior to waxing stripped furniture

To clean your furniture:

  • Use a clean damp cloth to remove dust
  • When dusting, use a soft dry cloth, in the direction of the grain, not in a circular motion.
  • Clean up spillages, especially alcohol, straightaway.

LifeStyle Furniture recommends that you use Howard furniture maintenance products. Howard products are natural products that are designed to work with the fine timber of your furniture. They complement the natural timber with natural ingredients.

Howard Citrus-Shield Paste Wax

Citrus~Shield Paste Wax contains no stabilisers and is a 100% pure organic wax. It contains the same basic ingredients as Feed-N-Wax but has more carnauba and less orange oil.

  • the perfect blend of natural waxes and orange oil.
  • provides a hard protective coating with carnauba wax.
  • buff out all finishes to a brilliant long-lasting shine.

Now also available in natural timber colurs. Walnut Citrus Shield pictured in the bottom pic.

Furniture Restoration.

This philosophy of using natural ingredients to complement the natural timbers extends to Howard furniture restoration products.

Howard Restor-A-Finish permanently removes surface scratches, heat rings, water marks and oxidation from almost all traditionally finished surfaces such as French polish, shellac, varnish, and to a good extent nitro-cellulose polishes. It doesn't react perfectly to some modern finishes such as Estapol - though we have had many successes reported from people who have applied it to modern finishes.

Restor-A-Finish works through a process of amalgamation - it becomes part of the already existing finish, and in that process most existing blemishes can be easily blended out.

Restore it - don't strip it! With a simple wipe-on wipe-off process, most finished wood surfaces that seem to need a refinishing job can be completely restored in a few minutes. White heat rings and watermark, sun-fade, oxidation, smoke damage and most other blemishes can be easily and quickly eliminated.

  • The ideal solution for treating carved woods. Save many hours of labour by chemically cleaning and restoring the finish on carved pieces of furniture and clocks. Simply apply Restor-A-Finish with a small paint brush or soft tooth brush and wipe off.
  • Revive faded finishes. Simply wipe on the desired colour of Restor-A-Finish with a clean cloth. Let it stand for a few minutes, and wipe dry. If you'd like a darker shade, use a darker colour of Restor-A-Finish.
  • Raised and blistered finishes. Apply neutral Restor-A-Finish with Superfine Steel Wool. As blisters soften, press down as Restor-A-Finish is applied. Wipe dry., and again later if necessary.
  • Restor-A-Finish can also be used to restore minor crazed or checked finishes.

Tip: Be careful to protect fabric, carpets or Linoleum as Restor-A-Finish can leave a permanent stain. If spilling occurs, wash area immediately with straight liquid detergent or stain remover and wipe dry.

Do not apply Restor-A-Finish to the new imitation wood finishes or use it under polyuurethane finishes as a stain!

All Howard furniture maintenance and restoration products are available from LifeStyle Furniture
