Marri
(eucalyptus calophylla)

The wild forests in Western Australia's South West are home to magnificent stands of many species of unique hardwoods, not the least of them being the Marri (eucalyptus calophylla), or Redgum. (It is known as Redgum not because of the colour of the wood, but because of the colour of the sap or gum. The gum is red, so it is red-gum! The actual wood is honey coloured.) A delicate golden honey is produced from the flower of the Marri tree.

The timber from the Marri tree is hard and durable, and has a honey coloured hue with interesting grain patterns, which makes for interesting furniture. Because of these features, Marri is ideal for furniture making.
